The Greek parliament has “put in his place” a pro-Putin deputy from the Greek Communist Party, Yannis Giokas, who began spreading false narratives about the situation in Ukraine during a meeting of a special commission.
Instead of discussing the situation of Ukrainians of Greek descent in Donbas who became victims of Russian aggression, Giokas accused Ukraine of the “2014 coup”, the activities of “Nazi gangs” and attacked President Zelenskyy.
However, the Honorary Consul of Greece in Kherson, Pantelis Boumpouras, who was present at the meeting, decisively interrupted the MP-propagandist, pointing out the outright lies and asking “who pays him to spread such narratives?”.
Unable to bear the exposure of his disinformation, the enraged Giorgos began to shout and demand protection from the committee chairman. However, the chairman supported Boumpouras and asked the MP not to quarrel with the guests of the parliament. In the end, unable to defend Putin’s propaganda, Giorgos was forced to leave the meeting room.
Greece strongly rejects anti-Ukrainian rhetoric and resists attempts to spread Kremlin narratives in its state institutions. This incident showed that Ukraine’s allies are not afraid to put Kremlin propagandists in their place if they spread lies.
